Who We Are
Every year, the University of Strathclyde Motorsport (USM) team designs, builds, markets and races a single-seater racing car as part of the global Formula Student initiative, an international competition focused on developing engineering and business talent in a practical, competitive and high-octane environment.

The team has grown again this year to over 180 members with a core team of over 60.
As an entirely student-led team from a wide variety of university departments, we pride ourselves on improving our performance year on year and carrying out the majority of our manufacturing in-house. Throughout the season, our team members commit themselves to improving and delivering performance using their skills within a tight timescale and budget.
what is formula student?
"Formula Student (FS) is Europe's most established educational engineering competition, which celebrated its 20th Anniversary in 2018.

Backed by industry and high-profile engineers such as Ross Brawn OBE, the competition aims to develop enterprising and innovative young engineers and encourage more young people to take up a career in engineering."

Teams' cars are not only judged on their racing performance during dynamic events, but also on component design, manufacturing quality, component documentation, environmental impact and the effectiveness of marketing to the race car market.

USM has consistently been competing at FS events for the last 20 years, attending events such as FS UK, FS Germany and FS Netherlands.
